Pipercross Plus Panels
Pipercross Plus filters feature a hybrid, bespoke filtration multi-laminate foam to achieve the optimal balance between increased flow and air filtration. Additionally, the Plus filter range feature an industry-first, CNC-laser cut, 0.9mm thick stainless steel backing frame that increases effective airflow 22.1% over typical mesh backing frames. You can really feel the difference that this change makes to the strength of the filter, even when pulling 100’s of CFM (cubic feet per minute) through the foam. Plus filters are the performance bedrock for the entire Pipercross panel filter line up.
The Foam Formula
20 PPI Foam
Utilising this free-flowing foam to capture the large dirt particles in an optimised thickness of 20mm, this first layer provides a great balance between filtration and flow.
60 PPI Foam
5mm Layer of 60 PPI foam is used to filter out any finer particles that make their way through the more open foam, this layer is mostly for protection, by keeping its thickness to a minimum it doesn’t disrupt the great flow of air this filter allows.
The Frame
A new stronger frame has been created with breath ability in mind, when compared to our regular mesh, this frame has a 22.1% increase in effective flow area. Not only is this good in terms of performance, but the increased rigidity in the frame will also improve durability.
AIRFLOW TESTING DATA
Both the OE and Pipercross PLUS panel were tested on Pipercross’ in-house, custom built stationary airflow test apparatus. To develop an initial performance benchmark, the full OE intake system (complete OE airbox plus OE air filter, OE outlet hose and OE rear intake pipe) was flow tested to a maximum CFM value. The Pipercross Plus filter was then swapped out for the OE part with all other componentary remaining the same for the repeat test. Each test was run 3 times with an average taken at the end.
The graph below summarizes the results of this testing on the relevant F56 Cooper S, OE and Pipercross PLUS configurations, confirming the increasing performance benefits of the PLUS panel. A significant drop in restriction of over 46% (at 500 CFM) allowed the PLUS filter to acheieve a maximum CFM value of 600, while the OE part was only able to flow to 500. This removal of restriction will aid in a better throttle response and increase in power, especially when combined with a level of engine tuning.
